This summer I’ll be spending a lot of time in France, visiting my boyfriend while I’m doing my internship in Germany. Along with planning my upcoming trips, I’ve also been preparing my summer wardrobe. Although my style has become more minimalist, I’m still obsessed with the “French-girl” style. My closet has slowly collected a mix of neutral classics and Reformation-esque pieces. The capsule wardrobe that I’m sharing in this post is what I’ll be inspired by during my visits to France. Flowy dresses, feminine tops, and floral fits make this wardrobe perfect for the summer. Next week I’ll be sharing my minimalist capsule wardrobe that features more of my work wear and classic items.
Summer is my favorite season to add some color to my wardrobe. I’ve included some soft yellow pieces that work nicely with black and neutral colors. I also selected light blue denim for this wardrobe. You could add more of this powder blue color with a floral dress or cropped knit as this color pairs nicely with the soft yellow. Black is always a staple color in my closet because it works with almost any other color. I’ve chosen several pieces in black that compliment many of the clothing items. White and ecru lighten up the color palette.
I chose 6 tops including a black top with button details, a floral top with puffed sleeves, a knit cardigan, a linen shirt, a basic white ribbed tank, and a tie-front linen top. It’s not essential to have all of these tops in your wardrobe; feel free to skip a few of the tops based on your budget and personal style. However, I’d recommend having a variety of sleeve lengths for differing weather conditions.
For bottoms I selected blue jeans, ecru pants, a floral skirt, a black skirt, and denim shorts. You can easily swap in other pieces depending on your preferences. For example, replace the denim shorts for a denim skirt or add a pair of pleated shorts in place of the pants.
1 Outerwear Piece
I chose just one outwear piece: a lightweight linen jacket. It’s perfect for cooler evenings when you need a little extra warmth. A trench coat or leather jacket would also work great with this capsule wardrobe.
For dresses I chose three classic styles: a black slip dress, a white linen dress and a short floral dress. If long or short dresses aren’t your style, swap in different dress lengths based on your preferences. You could also add a satin slip dress or another floral dress.
3 Pairs of Shoes
For shoes I chose black leather sandals, heel sandals, and neutral espadrilles. If you need more functional footwear, you could also add in a pair of white sneakers.
I chose a soft yellow bikini for the swimsuit. A classic one-piece like this one would also work great in this capsule wardrobe.
For accessories I chose gold hoop earrings, black sunglasses and a sunhat. Add your favorite jewelry to this capsule (I also love gold pendant necklaces and dainty rings). Sun protection is so important during the summer months, so don’t forget to include sun protective accessories in your wardrobe. For bags I selected a basket bag that is perfect for the daytime and small leather handbag for evenings out.
