Lingerie is one area of fashion that is easily overlooked. While being allured by all things outerwear, our wardrobes (and our budgets) don’t often make room for heavenly soft silk chemises or bitty black lace balconette bras.

Since I started cultivating my minimalist wardrobe, I have also fantasized about expanding my modest lingerie collection. Although I opt for simple undergarments day-to-day, I find that there is something incredibly chic about wearing a beautiful, well-constructed lingerie set. Maybe it’s about feeling sensual or mysterious. Or possibly that the anglicized word still retains an air of French elegance. No matter the reason for coveting lingerie, it’s not a subject of which many of us are experts.

As a novice lingerie buyer myself, I watched HauteLeMode’s video on Cora Harrington's lingerie guide In Intimate Detail: How to Choose, Wear, and Love Lingerie and decided to read the book.

The guide discusses the history of lingerie, how to choose lingerie for your body type, how to store and care for lingerie as well advice on identifying different styles and fabrics. Readers will also learn how to purchase new and vintage lingerie and tips for shopping online. There are practical tips and tricks through out the book that will form anyone into an undergarment expert.

One of the aspects of the book that I appreciated the most was the consideration for a variety of bodies. From trans women to women going through menopause to women with physical disabilities, the author thoughtfully addressed individuals who are often not addressed in the realm of lingerie.

I also took pleasure in the beautiful watercolor illustrations throughout the book. The overall design of the book perfectly reflects the stylish sentiment of wearing lingerie.

If you are inspired to learn about wearing and buying lingerie, you can purchase the guide in hardcover and digital versions on Amazon.
