France is famous for fragrance, and that includes some of the best candles (bougies in French). And what better place to shop them than Paris, the City of Light itself?
In this guide, I’ve rounded up all of the top spots for candle shopping in Paris. Many of the most iconic French candle brands lean luxury, but I’ve also included some more affordable favorites that still feel incredibly chic.
Whether you're looking for a unique souvenir, a thoughtful gift, or just want your home to smell like Paris, here are the must-know places to buy candles in Paris.
I shop at many of these stores to perfume my own apartment here in Strasbourg.
Visiting Paris soon? Here's exactly where (and what) to shop:
Candles in Paris
Diptyque
You can find Diptyque boutiques all over Paris, but if you want to visit the original, head to their historic flagship on Boulevard Saint-Germain. It’s one of the oldest candle shops in Paris that’s been open since 1961.
For serious Diptyque shoppers, the Rue Duphot store offers exclusive items not sold online, including home decor, limited-edition formats, and the signature Rue Duphot candle. They even carry the Paris city candle, another beautiful souvenir to bring home.
Are Diptyque candles cheaper in Paris? Yes! The classic 190g candles are $76 in the U.S., but only 60€ in France (around $70 with the current conversion rates). The French price also includes taxes, so what you see is what you pay. And if you spend enough to get the VAT refund, you’ll get an even better deal.
Addresses: 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain, 75005 Paris; 7 Rue Duphot, 75001 Paris
Trudon
Founded in 1643, Trudon is the oldest candle maker in France, once supplying the court of Louis XIV as well as most of the great churches of France. During the 17th and 18th centuries, it was the largest wax-producer in the French Kingdom.
Their original Left Bank boutique carries their full collection of wax busts, colorful candlesticks and iconic mossy-green glass votives adorned with their signature golden crest.
Trudon candles definitely don’t come cheap, but they’re among the most luxurious souvenirs you can bring home from Paris.
Address: 78 Rue de Seine, 75006 Paris
Carrière Frères
Carrière Frères is a sister brand to Trudon, dating back to 1884 when the Carrière brothers set out to revive waxmaking in Paris. Today, Carrière Frères carries on its legacy with an array of botanical scents extracted from herbs, roots, flowers, fruits and trees. I’d recommend getting a whiff of their bestselling tomato candle that’s very green and fresh.
You can buy Carrière Frères candles at perfumeries, department stores and boutiques across Paris, including Nose, Le Bon Marché, Galeries Lafayette Haussmann and even Trudon.

Kerzon
Founded by brothers Etienne and Péa, Kerzon is a family-owned company known for its fragrances inspired by childhood memories and Parisian landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and Jardin du Luxembourg.
They make lovely gifts (I’ve even offered a few myself!). If you’re visiting Paris, stop by their flagship boutique on Rue de Turenne for the full range of fragranced products. You can also shop them at select stores like Printemps.
Address: 68 Rue de Turenne, 75003 Paris
Astier de Villatte
Astier de Villatte is best known for their handmade ceramics, but their scented candles are just as luxe. Made in collaboration with master perfumers, each scent is tied to a specific city. They also have plenty of candles inspired by famous Paris spots like Opéra and Palais de Tokyo, which would make lovely souvenirs.
Visit the flagship store on Rue Saint-Honoré to shop their creamy white ceramics along with candles and a curated trove of whimsical little objects and decor.
Address: 173 Rue Saint-Honoré, 75001 Paris
Mad et Len
Founded in 2007 in the heart of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Mad et Len is a more niche candle house worth shopping in Paris. Inside their boutique in Galerie Vivienne, you’ll find blackened iron objects and a range of seasonal scents inspired by the nature surrounding their workshop in the south of France.
Their candle vessels are welded by hand using age-old techniques, making each and every one a truly unique piece of craftsmanship. Not to miss: the Bois d'Orage candle created in collaboration with French label Lemaire.
Address: 27 Galerie Vivienne, 75002 Paris
Officine Universelle Buly 1803
If you’re shopping in Paris, chances are Buly 1803 is already on your list. These old-world-inspired apothecaries have gone viral in recent years.
Something not to pass up on are their scented candles. True objets d’art, each one is hand-poured into marble vessels, topped with a glass cloche, and finished with ornate little labels.
Every purchase is wrapped with silk ribbon, sealed with wax, and even personalized with your name in calligraphy. It’s a whole experience that’s hard to find in shopping today.
Address: 6 Rue Bonaparte, 75006 Paris
D’Orsay
D’Orsay is a niche French fragrance house with nearly 200 years of history. Revived in 2015 by Amélie Huynh, the brand honors its romantic origins while embracing a modern sensibility. Alfred d'Orsay founded the house to celebrate a secret love affair, creating fragrances designed to be shared by two. Each D’Orsay candle is centered around emotions and love stories, named after a specific time and moment.
Visit their boutique on Rue du Bac for a cozy, curated experience. You’ll find their full range of perfumes and candles, along with personalized scent consultations.
Address: 44 Rue du Bac, 75007 Paris
Dior
For a couture candle experience, visit Dior’s flagship boutique on Avenue Montaigne. Their scented candles reinterpret iconic fragrances from their La Collection Privée and come housed in smooth ceramic vessels that feel as luxurious as the scents themselves. Ambre Nuit is a longtime client favorite.
I’d also recommend browsing their printed vessels (I’m a fan of this one wrapped in a map of Paris). Such an elegant way to bring a piece of your trip home.
Address: 30 Avenue Montaigne, 75008 Paris
Ritz Paris
Yes, even the Ritz has its own line of luxury candles. You’ll find them in the boutique inside the hotel, each one designed to evoke the elegance of this legendary address.
Not to miss is Suite Impériale, the exact fragrance used in the iconic suite. It comes embellished with the swan emblem created by César Ritz himself (and adorns the hotel’s bathrooms since it opened in 1898).
Also, the Ritz Bar collection draws inspiration from the hotel’s signature cocktails.
And if that wasn’t enough, stop by the Ritz Comptoir for their now-viral Madeleine scented candle, which smells like buttery sweet pastries straight from the oven.
Even if you’re not checking in, you can still take home a little of the Ritz.
Address: 15 Place Vendôme, 75001 Paris
Nose
Nose is the niche perfume boutique in Paris that also carries a nice selection of luxury candles. Staff here are scent professionals and can guide you through picks from Diptyque, Trudon, Mad et Len, D’Orsay, and more. It’s also a good spot to discover niche labels you’ve never heard of.
If you’re already popping in for perfume, don’t leave without choosing a signature scent for your space too.
Address: 20 Rue Bachaumont, 75002 Paris
Merci
One of the coolest concept stores in Paris, Merci is known for its unique curation of fashion, design, and home goods, including candles.
Expect to find quirky shapes (yes, even a camembert candle), niche fragrance brands, and their own signature Ma Maison candle. It has notes of sandalwood, coffee, and green tea and is available in three different cases, each illustrated with iconic Parisian scenes like Quai de Seine and Rue de Paris.
Address: 111 Boulevard Beaumarchais, 75003 Paris
Le Bon Marché
One of the oldest and most iconic department stores in Paris, Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche is also one of the best spots in the city to browse high-end candles under one roof.
The candle selection here is top-tier, featuring everything from Carrière Frères and Trudon to Memo Paris and Diptyque, all beautifully displayed in their sprawling beauty and home section.
For something offbeat, I’d suggest checking out the quirky candelabras from Les Bougies de Frédérique.
Address: 24 Rue de Sèvres, 75007 Paris
Printemps Haussmann
Another luxury shopping destination, Printemps Haussmann has an impressively curated home fragrance selection. Here you can find candles from designer favorites like Dior, Byredo, and Le Labo all in one spot.
Once you’ve finished scent shopping, treat yourself to a coffee or cocktail at Le Bar Perché, one of my favorite rooftop bars in Paris.
Address: 40 Boulevard Haussmann, 75009 Paris
Monoprix
Yes, Monoprix! The French supermarket is one of my favorite places to buy affordable French souvenirs, but it also stocks surprisingly good candles.
You’ll find accessible French brands like Durance, Esteban, and Panier des Sens on the shelves, plus Monoprix’s own in-house line. I personally wait for the French soldes every year to stock up on very cheap bougies for my apartment.
It might not be worth the luggage space for a short trip, but if you're studying abroad or moving to France, definitely check out Monoprix for inexpensive candles.
